M:Professor Johnson seems so serious.
W:But his lectures are quite humorous, aren't they?
M:Miss Richardson, my daughter didn't sleep well last night. Will you give us some extra attention today?
W:Don't worry, Mr. Cruz. All the kids will be taken good care of here.
W:Hi, John, you look good today. New shirt?
M:No, I've had this shirt for two years. But I bought the shoes yesterday. Do you like them?
W:Yes, very nice. They look good with your jeans.
W:Can you please have that report done by the end of the day? I need to send it on to our customers.
M:Yes, madam, I'm almost done. I've had my assistant helping me. I'll give it to you as soon as possible.
W:What are you doing today?
M:I'll probably go to the park and play the guitar. What's your plan today?
W:I'll go to the park too. I'll fly the kite there with some friends.
M:It is nice seeing you. Do you need me to do anything for you later?
W:No, that's OK. You helped out a lot yesterday and today.
M:Are you sure? I'm free all day tomorrow and I can come to the house if you want.
W:It's fine. We already have enough workers do the job.
W:How was your mother feeling these days?
M:Much better, thanks. She'll be back home in a few days.
W:That's wonderful. When will you be back at your job?
M:I think I'll need a week to take care of her and do some cleaning.
W:Why don't you hire someone to do it? You'll be able to work and also have more free time.
M:I prefer to do it myself.
W:You're a kind and thoughtful man. I admire you very much.
M:I'm just a regular son.
M:Is it true that you don't swim at all now?
W:I'm afraid so. I'm too old.
M:But you're only 20.
W:That's too old for a swimmer. If I swam in an international competition now, I wouldn't win. So I'd rather not swim at all.
M:But don't you enjoy swimming?
W:I used to when I was small. But if you enter for big competitions, you have to work very hard. I used to get up at 6 a.m. to go to the pool. I had to train before school, after school and at weekends. I swam 35 miles every week.
M:But you were famous at 15.And look at all those cups.
W:It's true that I have some wonderful memories. I enjoyed visiting other countries and the Olympics were very exciting. But I missed more important things. While other girls were growing up, I was swimming. What can I do now?
M:Could you introduce yourself and tell us where you are from?
W:Yeah, my name's Ann Richards and I'm from Montreal, Canada. And right now I'm an English teacher in Tokyo, Japan.
M:Mm, what's Montreal like?
W:Montreal is a really nice city. It's just very cold in the wintertime. It has four seasons, and the nicest season is the summertime because it's really warm and people can play a lot of sports.
M:Wow! Were you born in Montreal?
W:Yes, I was born in Montreal, and I can speak two languages. English is my first language and I also studied French in high school.
M:OK. Since you learned French, what do you think is the best way to learn a language?
W:I think that you have to like learning another language, and if you have a positive attitude，then you can find learning another language fun rather than stressful. And I like the fact that I could communicate using another language because then I have another identity.
